Elton John’s Sons Are All Grown Up! Zachary and Elijah, 16 and 13, Step Out as ‘Handsome Young Men

LONDON – Sir Elton John and husband David Furnish have spent decades in the spotlight, but it is their two sons, Zachary and Elijah, who are currently stealing the show. After years of being kept mostly out of the public eye to protect their privacy, the boys have recently stepped into the limelight, appearing as “handsome young men” in a series of rare family updates that have left fans marvelling at how much they’ve grown.

The “Rocket Man” singer, 78, and Furnish, 63, recently delighted fans by sharing a rare look at their sons during a high-profile New Year’s celebration hosted by fashion icon Donatella Versace. Zachary, now 16, and Elijah, 13, appeared alongside their parents, looking sharp in coordinated evening wear that hinted at a burgeoning sense of style inherited from their fashion-forward fathers.

Social media was quickly flooded with comments from fans and celebrities alike. “What handsome young men they’ve become,” one user wrote, while another noted, “They look so grown up and confident. A credit to their parents.”

From Toddlers in the Wings to Teenage Support

The transition from the toddlers seen in occasional, blurry “back-of-the-head” photos to the teenagers seen today marks a new chapter for the Furnish-John family. Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John was born via surrogate in December 2010, followed by his younger brother, Elijah Joseph Daniel Furnish-John, in January 2013.

For most of their childhood, Elton and David were adamant about giving the boys a “normal” upbringing at their home in Old Windsor. However, as the boys have entered their “key decade” of adolescence, they have become a more visible support system for their father.

The timing of the boys’ growth coincides with Elton John’s official retirement from life on the road. Following the conclusion of his record-breaking Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, the music legend made it clear that his decision was driven by a desire to be present for his children’s teenage years.

“We’ve got our sons… they’re getting into their teenage years now,” David Furnish told reporters. “We don’t want to miss anything. We want to be present for that.”

This presence has become even more vital as Elton navigates recent health challenges. The singer has been open about his “limited vision” following a severe eye infection in 2024, as well as knee and hip replacements. Sources close to the family say the boys have stepped up significantly, helping their father navigate his surroundings with the same poise they show in public portraits.

A Legacy in the Making

In early 2026, the family was further honored when a portrait of the four of them, captured by photographer Catherine Opie, was unveiled at London’s National Portrait Gallery. The image, which features the boys with their two black Labradors, captures a moment of domestic peace and maturity.

“To have our family… on display at the National Portrait Gallery is a huge honor,” Elton and David said in a joint statement.

As Zachary approaches adulthood and Elijah navigates his early teens, the public’s fascination with the brothers continues to grow. While they have yet to indicate if they will follow their father into the music industry, one thing is certain: the “handsome young men” are no longer just the kids in the background—they are the center of Elton John’s world.
